Job Title: Camp Lead Counselor
Reports to: Youth Development Director
Status: Part-time/Seasonal
May 15 - August 30
M-F, hours vary, 15-20 hours per week
Starting Rate: $8.50
Job
Responsibilities:
Supervise age group staff
Ensure counselors are providing quality care for children with age-appropriate activities
Communicate information about camper's day to parents
Ensure lesson plans are completed and turned in
Supervise youth in camp team
Be a positive adult staff person
Model the behavior expected from the children.
Provide a safe, warm, caring and fun environment.
Promote the values of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility.
Encourage children to appreciate and accept the differences in others.
Increase self-confidence and independence
Maintain and follow all safety guidelines to provide a secure environment
Develop weekly, fun lesson plans
Strengthen leadership skills through teamwork activities
Stimulate an awareness of emotions and feelings
Encourage and support open communication with children and their parents.
Develop a lesson plan for each week of camp
Implement lesson plans
Be a positive role model to help the children understand appropriate and positive ways of expression.
Use and teach effective conflict resolution.
Support fellow Camp Counselor team members
Experience Preferred (not required):
19 years of age
Childcare experience
Lesson planning
Implementation of Safety Procedures
Written and oral communication skills
Organization skills
Previous supervisory experience
Certifications:
Working towards Teacher Certification - preferred
CPR/AED (Infant/Child and Adult) certification - required
First Aid certification - required
Training Required:
40 hours training at Y prior to camp
Weekly staff meetings
Other assigned trainings
