Summary:
The Account Clerk is responsible for the accounts receivable, clerical duties of the Finance Department and performs related duties as required.
This position has a 20-mile residency requirement as outlined in the AFSCME Local 3957 collective bargaining agreement.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Maintenance of all Accounts Receivable files.
Process payments.
Prepare and make bank deposits.
Prepare and distribute monthly utility bills.
Enforce policy to maintain past due/delinquent vendors and/or accounts.
Process City's various tax payments.
Assist internal and external inquiries.
Assist in collecting information for the annual financial audit.
Completes daily/ weekly/ monthly tasks assigned by supervisor.
Maintenance of all Accounts Payable files.
Set-up and maintenance of the database(s) of vendors.
Process and distribute invoices to appropriate departments.
Research vendor inquiries and discrepancies.
Completes daily/ weekly/ monthly tasks assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Great attention to detail and organization Understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
Work a 40-hour workweek with occasional overtime.
Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and terminology.
General knowledge of office equipment including the personal computer, copy machine, calculator, and FAX machine.
Work independently, creatively and show initiative.
Work in a fast paced/high volume environment with interruptions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Manage delinquent accounts with professionalism.
Maintain confidentiality.
Strong dedication to both internal and external customer service.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and public.
Good organizational and time management skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate will have an Associate's degree or two years of college coursework and two years of previous experience in a related role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position.
